About us

A multifaceted, active, and innovative department operating across all areas of physics and astronomy.

DIFA’s great potential stems from breaking the stereotype of an abstract physics department, disconnected from practical skills and current issues.

Its multidisciplinary approach and the overcoming of artificial boundaries between fundamental and applied research are the driving forces that project DIFA into the future.

In the university’s multicampus landscape, DIFA’s identity makes it a key crossroads for research, education, and social impact.

Our Research

Research activities are highly diversified, covering both well-established fields (theoretical physics, nuclear and subnuclear physics, astrophysics) and rapidly expanding areas that often intersect multiple sectors (space, applied physics, condensed matter, atmospheric physics, geophysics, quantum science and technology, gravitational waves).
In the context of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), DIFA is involved in a wide range of projects seen as investments for the future.
