In the 17th century, Galileo revolutionized the study of the heavens by pointing his telescope at the moon. Two hundred years later, that same light was captured on photographic plate for the first time. In the 19th century, astronomers were among the most enthusiastic explorers of the scientific potential of photography. From the first daguerreotype of the moon to the first image of a black hole, we explore the photographic revolution through exciting firsts and breakthroughs.
