The Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei is one of the oldest scientific institutions in Europe. It was founded in Rome in 1603 by Federico Cesi, Francesco Stelluti, Anastasio De Filiis and Johannes van Heeck, with the aim of establishing a meeting place for the development of science. Its name refers to the sharpness of vision required of those who devote themselves to science, a physiological trait that is said to characterise the lynx.

Reason for the award: ‘For her important commitment to coordinating the FEDORA project, which has opened up new lines of research in Italy and Europe on the theme of “Future Thinking” with the aim of aligning physics teaching in secondary schools with the needs of a society undergoing profound change.’

2023 Haagen-Smit Prize - Elsevier - Atmospheric Environment

The chair of the selection committee and the editor of Atmospheric Environment are pleased to announce the winning paper of the 2023 'Haagen-Smit Award,' designed to recognize outstanding articles published in Atmospheric Environment from 2015 to 2022 with substantial impact. The award is named in honor of Professor Arie Jan Haagen-Smit, a pioneer in the field of air pollution and one of the first editors of the International Journal of Air Pollution, the predecessor of Atmospheric Environment. The winning paper for 2023 is: K.V. Abhijith, P. Kumar*, J. Gallagher, A. McNabola, R. Baldauf, F. Pilla, B. Broderick, S. Di Sabatino, & B. Pulvirenti. (2017).

Research.com organization ranked Marcella Brusa among the top 1000 female scientists worldwide. This ranking is based on the analysis of publications and the impact of more than 166,000 female scientists worldwide. Of the 26 female Italian scientists who made it to the Top 1000, two are from Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna. Prof. Brusa is the tenth highest-ranked scientist in Italy among the 26.

During the yearly conference of the Italian Synchrotron Radiation Society, held at Sapienza Univeristà di Roma (August 30th – September 1st, 2023), Prof. Federico Boscherini received the “Outstanding scientist award”, in recognition of his long career of excellence in various international laboratories and his current role as Chair of the Council of European X-ray Free Electron Laser.
