Forecasting summer thunderstorms in Central/Southern Europe is challenging. Convective-scale data assimilation and high-resolution forecasts aim to improve predictions. The Swabian MOSES 2023 campaign provides key mesoscale observations, such as Doppler wind lidar data, to refine weather models and forecasts.
