Emergency Plan
The emergency plan is an integral part of the Health and Safety Manual and outlines the procedures to follow in case of fire, evacuation, flooding, or medical emergency.
The Department of Physics and Astronomy has five different locations: some are situated in Bologna’s historic city center, one is located in the Navile area within the University’s new complex, and another is in Ravenna. Each building has its own emergency plan, which naturally reflects the specific characteristics of the site. However, emergency management is guided by the same principles across all locations, as briefly illustrated below.
Emergency Team
During the Department’s opening hours, an emergency team is active. The team consists of personnel from DIFA and affiliated institutions hosted within DIFA (INFN, INAF, CNAF), where present. Members of the emergency team have completed specific training courses in fire safety and first aid. In accordance with legal requirements, they also attend regular refresher courses. The team serves as the main point of reference for all users in case of emergency. In addition to being trained in fire safety and first aid, they are familiar with the emergency plan and all procedures to be followed when necessary.
Staffed Emergency Room
The staffed emergency room is a designated space where, during opening hours, at least one member of the emergency team is present. This room may contain one or more tools useful for emergency management, such as a first aid kit, fire alarm control panel, emergency alarm button, etc. Typically, the staffed room is located at the building’s reception desk.
Emergency and Evacuation Procedures
The first golden rule is to remain calm and avoid causing panic. If you become aware of a danger or emergency situation, notify the staffed room if possible. If time does not permit, due to the urgency of the situation, immediately contact external emergency services (Fire Brigade 115, Medical Emergency 118, Carabinieri 112, Police 113). In case of imminent danger, move away from the area and alert as many people as possible.
If the evacuation alarm sounds, leave the building following the green emergency signage, assist those in need, do not use the elevator, and proceed to the designated assembly point outside. For further details, refer to the emergency signage available for download on this page.
