RedAI among the finalists of Start Cup Emilia-Romagna 2025

RedAI is among the finalists of the 2025 edition of Start Cup Emilia-Romagna, the regional competition dedicated to innovation and the creation of new high-tech enterprises.

The project proposes a solution to transform the smartphone into a tool for eye health, through optical technologies and artificial intelligence algorithms. The app allows for non-invasive analyses of ocular parameters, paving the way for new possibilities in the prevention of specific visual pathologies.

The team brings together multidisciplinary expertise: Luigi Fontana, Director of the School of Specialization in Ophthalmology at the University of Bologna, and Piera Versura, Professor and expert in ocular surface health, are responsible for data collection and clinical validation of the product; Gastone Castellani, Professor of Physics, contributes his experience in artificial intelligence applied to medicine; the researchers from the Department of Physics and Astronomy Nico Curti and Tommaso Giacometti contribute advanced skills in AI and software development, dedicated to the design of the app and the algorithmic models.

The initiative is part of the applied research and technology transfer activities through which the Department of Physics and Astronomy “A. Righi” promotes the valorisation of scientific results and the collaboration between academia and industry.
