Thesis defences and degree award ceremony

The concluding events of the IMAPP – International Master on Advanced Methods in Particle Physics joint Master’s degree programme will take place in Bologna on 28 and 29 September 2026.
On 28 September, from 9 am to 6 pm, IMAPP students will defend their Master’s theses at the Department of Physics and Astronomy “Augusto Righi” of the University of Bologna. The examination committees will include academic staff and representatives from the three partner universities: the University of Bologna, Université Clermont Auvergne and TU Dortmund University.
On the following day, 29 September, the degree award ceremony will take place at the San Domenico complex, starting at 10:30 a.m. The event is part of the activities of the European IMAPP project, locally coordinated by Prof. Angelo Carbone, and marks the conclusion of the students’ international study programme.
The ceremony will open with institutional greetings and a presentation of the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master IMAPP programme by Prof. Kevin Kröninger of TU Dortmund University. The programme will continue with a keynote lecture by Prof. Fabio Maltoni of the University of Bologna and CERN.
Additional contributions will be given by Dr Giulia Fazzino, a former IMAPP student and currently a doctoral researcher at Heidelberg University, and Dr Gloria Guidetti of Tetra Pak, who will discuss the connections between fundamental physics and industry.
The programme will also include the screening of the video “Two Years Around Europe”, a speech by an IMAPP student representative and the degree award ceremony, followed by closing remarks.
The two-day event provides an opportunity to celebrate the students’ achievements and to strengthen the academic and institutional cooperation among the partner universities.
