This presentation reports on two studies that investigate how university students understand and apply linear algebra in quantum mechanics. The first examines how students interpret and contrast eigenequations in mathematics and quantum mechanics, showing that diverse conceptual views of eigentheory can support learning across contexts and enhance cross-disciplinary reasoning. The second study uses Uhden et al. ’s (2012) model to reveal how students shift between structural and technical reasoning, with their grasp of bases, inner products, and probability shaping flexible and productive problem-solving approaches.
