DUE TO THE WEATHER ALERT - THE SEMINAR OF MAY 19th, 2023 HAS BEEN POSTPONED.

The cycle of seminars "On the shoulders of giants" is back! It will deal with current issues, from quantum gravity to quantum computing. The event, dedicated to physics students, is organized by the Academy of Sciences in collaboration with the Italian Physics Society, the Italian Physics Students Association and the “A. Righi” Department of Physics and Astronomy. It is curated by Prof. Luisa Cifarelli.

The objective of the meetings, scheduled for the months of May and June, is made explicit in the title of the seminars, which takes up the famous aphorism attributed to Isaac Newton: “If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.”

The interventions of professors of the Academy and the University, in fact, will provide a broad and clear overview of physics today, which will allow the participants to "look into the distance".

The first appointment will be held on Friday, April 21st. Professor Paolo Rossi (UniPI) and Dr Rosario Nania (INFN BO) will illustrate respectively "History of the Quantum" and "Quantum detectors".

Afterwards, on Friday, May 5th, Professor Francesco Minardi (UniBO) and Dr Gabriella Bettonte (CINECA) will present “Q-bits” and “Quantum computing”.

Finally, on May 19th, professors Elisa Ercolessi (UniBO) and Michele Cicoli (UniBO) will deal with "From the First to the Second Quantum Revolution" and "Quantum Gravity".

The meetings are always at 4.30 pm at the Academy of Sciences, via Zamboni 31 or online in the virtual room at the following link: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/96444712622?pwd=QkRnNmVUU3lVcTU1WU1nQlo0RDNKZz09
